Sound Healing For Dummies

At the root of all our thoughts, emotions and behaviours is the communication between neurons within our brains. Brainwaves are produced by synchronized electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other.

Our brainwaves change according to what we’re doing and feeling. Our brain operates at certain levels of activity – the normal waking, active Beta, the wakeful rest Alpha, the deep meditative Theta, and the sleep/unconscious Delta.

Almost everything we experience in the universe is simply our perception of waves.

When sound waves reach our ears, they are converted into electrical signals that travel up the auditory nerve into the part of the brain that processes sound. Once sound waves reach our brains, they trigger responses in our bodies.

This process alters our emotions, releases hormones, and triggers certain impulses.

A study in the 1970s proposed that when one tone is played to one ear, and a different tone is played to the other, the two hemispheres of the brain connect and create a third (internal) tone called a binaural beat.

Binaural beats synchronize the brain, providing clarity, alertness, and greater concentration. It’s solid evidence that our brains and bodies respond to sound in both a cognitive and physical way.

Brain wave entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by producing a stable, solid frequency that our brains adjust to and then match. Ancient civilizations have been using the hypnotic effects of this by using rhythmic drumming and chanting which help elicit a trance-like state.

Once you’re in meditation with brainwave entrainment, you stay there until the track ends. Unlike meditation with traditional practice, brainwave entrainment does that work for you. You just focus on what you want – to relax, release nausea, etc.

Brainwave entrainment helps the brain do what the brain naturally does anyway – to synchronize to an external stimulus. And it gives you a consistent experience every time. So, next time you have a headache you can go to our Recalibration page and try sound healing out for yourself. :)
